Making my own beauty products

Updated: Sep 15, 2019

I began with toothpaste. I figured that most of the ingredients were easy to come across and the mixture is simple, so why not try it? I had to order the bentonite clay and activated charcoal, but I also have other uses for them.

The toothpaste takes a little bit of getting used to but it is very low waste and natural.

I also used the bentonite clay (plus coconut oil and water) to make a sort of paste to use on bug bites. It does the job, but after getting used to commercial products, I have to say it doesn't work quite as well. But, for being natural and lower in waste, I will opt for the homemade option in the future.

Activated charcoal has other uses as well. It can be used in face masks and dental care but it can also be added to food. I am not sure if there is nutritional value but it sure is fun to present your guests pitch black food that still tastes good.

The beeswax (or soy if you want a vegan option) can be used for a lot of beauty products but also other household products. I bought this specially to make wax wraps to store food with but I was not a fan of how they turned out. Since then, I have made lip balm and candles with this wax so that I am not wasting any product.
